Al Jalali Fort

The old portuguese stronghold that looks over the harbour
  • 1

Time Out Says

A beautiful 16th century Portuguese fort that might just be the most photogenic building in Muscat. Sat up on a cliff overlooking the harbour and views of Old Muscat. While the fort was once key to defending Mutrah from attacks from the sea it now acts as a museum. Usually out of limits to the public it remains a backdrop for much of city life in the historic quarters. A steep staircase will take you closer and it is the scene of firework displays on special occasions.
