Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
Learn more about Islam at this beautiful place of worship
Time Out Says
Oman’s largest mosque has space for 20,000 worshippers and is also the only one open to non-Muslims. This makes it a popular destination for tourists looking to learn more about Islam and Omani culture. Respectful dress is required, while volunteers and guides explain customs and answer questions. As well as the architecture and history there are breath-taking sights, including a carpet, said to be the world’s second largest and weighing more than 20 tonnes, plus a crystal chandelier, also thought to be among the world’s largest.
