Oman to end school year early

Oman has decided to end the school year early, the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling the developments of coronavirus (COVID-19) has announced.

Kids will have their final day at school on Thursday May 7.

Schools across Oman initially shut for a period of one month on March 15 in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus, with learning taking place online ever since.

Now the school year has been finished completely, and the Ministry of Education will find suitable alternatives to calculate results for students so they can progress to the class from the 2020-2021 school year.

The announcement is part of a number of measures being taken to combat coronavirus in the Sultanate.

Areas with a high number of cases, such as Muscat, have been locked down, and travel between governorates has been restricted

The Supreme Committee has also banned Ramadan gatherings, including Taraweeh.

Mosques will continue to be shut, with the exception of the call to prayer.
