Oman voted friendliest country in the world for expats

If you ask someone about Oman, chances are they’ll mention how friendly the people are.

And now this popular view has been confirmed in the latest Expat Insider survey which quizzed more than 20,000 people living abroad about topics including family life, the cost of living and job security.

Oman was voted the best country for friendliness, and took the top spot for safety and security – rising 17 positions from last year.

Seventy-nine percent of expats in the Sultanate believe Oman is safe, while another 86 percent are happy with the political stability.

One respondee to the survey said: “Oman is a peaceful country. People here are so friendly, and they respect all expats.”

Overall, Oman placed 32 out of the 64 countries included in the survey, which was produced by InterNations.

Factors dragging Oman’s ranking down include problems with job security – Oman ranks 62nd in this category, with one third of expats saying they are disappointed by this.

Another issue brought up by expats was family life – Oman is 33rd overall in this category thanks to poor childcare options and a lack of affordable education.
