Vodafone set to launch in Oman in late 2020

British firm Vodafone is set to launch in Oman in the second half of 2020, becoming the third mobile phone operator in the Sultanate, it has been announced.

The company, which already has mobile operations in 24 countries, will join Ooredoo and Omantel.

Vodafone has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Oman Future Telecommunications (OFT) to roll out the new network.

Managing director of Itqan Tech Development Fahad Al Busaidi, who signed the agreement for OFT, said: “Undoubtedly, the launch of the Vodafone brand in Oman will be the most significant event in the telecoms market over recent years.

“The implementation of the company’s unique global technological and marketing expertise in Oman will have a positive impact for consumers, businesses and the economy. I am excited to be working with a global leader in telecommunications, and leveraging their experience and expertise.”

The OFT was set up purely to facilitate the establishment of a third mobile phone operator in the hopes that the company would “drive the growth and development of technology and telecommunications industry” and lead Oman into a “new era of innovation and creativity”.
