Oman announces closure of tourist spots to coronavirus

Oman's Supreme Committee has decided to close Jebal Akhdhar, Jebel Shams, Wilayat of Masirah and Dhofar to stop the spread of Covid-19.

The decision was made ahead of the usual summer tourist season, alongside the decision to prohibit any gatherings or tourism activities in the areas.

The ban will come into effect from noon on Saturday June 13 and the situation will continue to be assessed.

The news comes after the committee decided to allow almost 50 kinds of shops to reopen with strict social distancing measures in place.
