Eid al-Adha expected to fall on July 31

Eid al-Adha is likely to fall on Friday July 31.

As it is based on the sighting of the moon, and an exact date will be announced nearer the time, though predictions suggest it will be Friday July 31, which should mean days off work on Sunday August 2 to Tuesday August 4.

Eid is a time when families and friends come together to celebrate with a meal made from a goat or sheep that is usually shared between families and the less privileged.

Usually families and friends visit each other and wear new clothes. Eidieh - a gift of money during Eid - is given to children and sweets are served. However, social distancing rules mean this will be discouraged this year.

Future public holidays will include:
August 20 Muharram
October 29 Prophet Muhammed's (PBUH) Birthday
November 18 National Day
