Oman's Supreme Committee reveals new 2020 school year schedule

The Supreme Committee has announced the new school year in Oman for 2020-2021, after a meeting under the chairmanship of Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi, Minister of Interior.

After tackling developments in light of COVID-19, the new school year will being on Sunday November 1, 2020 for all students.

As for teachers and staff, they are to join on Sunday September 27. Holidays for students, members of teaching staff and employees will be arranged to fit with the new schedule.

The Supreme Committee has also revealed a system of ‘merged education’ for all schools, which means students will attend some classes at their respective schools, while other lessons will be taught online in accordance with basic terms and regulations to be issued by the Ministry of Education.

The Committee reviewed all alternatives reached by the Ministry of Education after exploring regional and international systems under similar circumstances.

It also reviewed studies by a number of international organisations after coordinating with sectors concerned in the Sultanate and social institutions.
