New guidelines for reopening of salons and beauty centres issued by Muscat Municipality

Muscat Municipality has launched safe workplace guidelines for women’s beauty centres and hairdressers as they begin to reopen.

Services that are allowed to restart in phase one of the reopening include hair cutting and colouring, cleaning and cutting nails and body hair removal.

Guidelines for hair cutting include disinfecting combs and tools before and after each use by placing in a thermal box or UVL device, plus replacing hairdressing gowns with disposable ones.

When it comes to manicures hands must be washed thorough, a transparent barrier must be placed between technicians and customers and bottles, equipment and basins must be disinfected.

All tools must be disinfected, plus single use items must be used for creams and lotions.

For waxing disposable items must be used and a pre-prepared quantities of wax should be used for one person only.

Beauty centres and hairdressers must also only operate at 50 percent capacity, with only half the chairs inside the facility to avoid crowding.

Cloth towels must be replaced with disposable paper ones while added precautions should be taken with sanitising salons.
