Thousands across Oman to take part in cancer awareness walkathon

Thousands of people across Muscat, Salalah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah and South Al Sharqiyah will take part in a walkathon to spread awareness and support cancer patients next month.

Oman Cancer Association is organising its 16th annual fundraiser on October 29. The main event will be held at the Qurum Nature Park between 4pm and 6.30pm, but regional walkathons will also take place.

Organisers are hoping to reach 10,000 registrations this year, with nearly 8,500 people taking part in the 3 km walk in 2018.
Tickets cost OMR3.5, and attendees will receive a cancer awareness T-shirt to wear on the march as part of the fee.

The walkathon coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness month which will also see a number of events across the country.
During October, people will be able to pick up pamphlets on the disease from Muscat City Centre, Qurum City Centre, Oman Avenues Mall, Mall of Muscat and Muscat Grand Mall.

Women over 40 will also be offered a free breast examination and mammogram.

OCA Chairman Dr Wahid al Kharousi said: “This is our 16th annual walkathon event to spread awareness for all cancers. This is the culmination of the Annual Global October Pink Ribbon, a whole month of events dedicated to breast cancer awareness.”

Anyone looking to sign up for the walkathon can visit the OCA office in Ghubra, a number of malls, or visit the OCA website.
