Muscat international is in the top 10 most connected airports in the Middle East

Oman Air runs 60 percent of flights from the airport with destinations including Mumbai, Milan and Kuala Lumpur

Muscat International Airport is among the top ten most connected airports in the Middle East and North Africa, a report has found.

The airport, which has flights to 400 cities and served 14 million passengers in 2017, ranked ninth, behind Dubai International in the UAE in first place.

O.R. Tambo International in South Africa came in second place, while Riyadh Airport in Saudi Arabia was ranked third.
According to the OAG Megahubs Index 2019, Muscat International has a flight connectivity index of 50, compared to 168 for Dubai.

Oman Air operates 60 percent of the flights from the airport, and has destinations including Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Mumbai in India, and Milan in Italy.

Muscat should rise the rankings again in 2020, after Oman Air announced a number of new destinations.

A codeshare agreement with Kenya Airways has meant Oman Air now offers flights to Entebbe in Uganda and Johannesburg in South Africa, while low cost airline SalamAir has also launched flights to Abu Dhabi.

The news also comes after the announcements that Omanis could get free eVisas for travel to St. Petersburg.
