Muscat named 27th safest city in the world

Abu Dhabi in the UAE took the top spot, while Sharjah, Dubai and Bahrain were also ranked highly

Muscat has been named as the 27th safest city in the world, according to Numbeo.

Oman’s capital city ranked highly on the safety index, but failed to take the top spot from Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
Other top GCC cities include Sharjah, which is in 5th place, Dubai in 7th, and Manama in Bahrain, which is in 39th.

The results are based on questions from people living in cities across the globe. Questions including do you feel safe walking home alone at night, are you worried about having your car stolen, and does your city have a problem with corruption and bribery?

The news comes after it was announced that Muscat Municipality would be renaming streets and areas in the capital to make them more tourist friendly.

The changes will start in the Wilayat of Seeb before being rolled out across the city.

Muscat was also recently named the least polluted city in the Middle East.
