Omanis not allowed to leave the Sultanate until further notice

Oman has forbidden Omanis from leaving the Sultanate until further notice, it has been announced.

From noon today (March 18), only Omanis will be allowed entry to the Sultanate via land, sea and air ports.

The news comes after Oman banned all non-GCC citizens from entering the country yesterday.

Oman is taking a number of measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in recent weeks.

Schools, universities and other educational institutions are set to be closed for a month, with teachers and other administrative staff given holidays.

All tourist sites, sports clubs, and gyms will be closed, as will mosques, with the exception of the call to prayer. Gatherings at public beaches, parks and wadis are banned.

Shops and malls will be closed, with the exception of grocery stores, clinic and pharmacies.
